Wanna Transition into UX? Here Are 3 Actionable Tips

Changing careers can be scary, especially when you haven’t had a complete picture of the field you’re thinking about getting into. To help you cope with the overwhelm and avoid analysis paralysis, below are three quick tips. They should be helpful even if you’re not yet 100% committed to switching to UX.

  1. To become a UXer, you first need to want it badly enough. There are further specializations under UX: user research, interaction design, visual design, prototyping. Do a gut check to see what about UX intrigues you the most. If you don’t want it badly enough yet, that’s okay. Take some free online courses and see if it’s your thing.
  2. If you want it badly enough, then take actions and spend time and energy to develop your UX skills. Work on your side projects, read books, read blog posts, join Skillshare, watch LinkedIn learning, take online courses… Nobody except you can truly elevate your UX skills.
  3. Go out to the wild and gain real experience. Don’t wait until you’re fully prepared. That day will never come. If you really want to be a UXer, apply for UX roles or internship. If you’re good enough, you’ll be able to work as a UX designer or researcher. If you’re rejected, then you’ll see where the gaps are.

Hope these three simple tips help you get started and take actions. If you are thinking about getting a master’s degree related to UX design, check out this post which will help you make a more informed decision.
